Four Seasons Hotel - The Members Club

Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai
For Provenance Land
2022

The Four Seasons in Mumbai has a long history as a regional destination for events, wellness, fine dining (San-Qi restaurant), and an award winning rooftop bar (AER), all set in a lush urban resort in the middle of busy Bombay. In recent years the owners, Provenance Land, have embarked on a grand new vision for the site, which revitalizes every aspect of the hotel. Atelier Pond was tapped to reinvent F&B across the site, including social spaces like this Members Club.

The Club, newly renovated on Level 33 of the Mumbai Four Seasons, just below the AER bar

Long established as a meeting place of choice for leaders of business and finance from across the city, the Members Club hosts business gatherings, group dining, product launches and celebrations. The next generation of the club brings greater potential for entertainment and collaborative work, with a more fully featured bar and cafe , media lounges and a central “great room” designed to work a series of small group huddles or a collective gathering space for twenty.

Altogether more social in format, programming of the Club will also bring a stronger connection to the AER Gin Garden and Yacht Club on the rooftop floor above. With its smaller divisible spaces, the AER spaces can now play host to functions spilling over from the Club level, or serve as an after-work destination to Club-goers.

elements of styling, casegoods and furniture echoed the scale and geometry of Art-Deco style facade decorations

What’s the role of member spaces in the hotel of the future? Where once a typical executive lounge level might be the only space where guests can work in a shared environment throughout the day, now hotel lobbies, all day restaurants and a wider selection of room types are outfitted with flexible live-dine-work functionality. The Members Club, however, continues to distinguish itself by offering a deeper and more varied selection of food and drinks, served in an environment of a scale that allows for a luxury level of personal service.

Every city has its own language of 20th century modernism, and in Mumbai it’s the coastal Art Deco district of grand houses and small hotels— a district that reaches its northern end nearby in Worhli— that defines Mumbai’s unique modernism. This style was taken as our starting point for building a local narrative of design history. The story comes into the picture with a theme of architecturally-scaled decorative objects that feel like pieces lifted from Mumbai’s precious mid-century facades. These elements adorn the club space as bookends, planters, and sometimes aspects of finishes. Taken as a whole, the style is a mix of classic modernism and forward looking geometries, suffused with the rich surface texture that is common to so much of Mumbai’s cityscape.

Elements like the bar station, shown here, speak this language of variety and attention to service with the details that allow for rich flexible display throughout the day and into evening mode. A variety of finishes and counter levels allows for comfortable mix of work surface adjacent to guest seating and nearby lower-height lounge seating groups.

the bar station includes display of wine, cigars, lockable spirits display, and central espresso and cocktail stations
